I bought this and the lid for earthquake preparedness. I also plan to make a pizza in it! Have started collecting cast iron skillet recipes. Am really pleased with the purchase!

The heaviness of cast iron but if you lift weights you will get used to it. the more you use the better it is.The taste, the even browning, the seasoning and cooking and you don’t have to turn it up to cook you can cook on low and not worry about burning the food. Enjoy all.

I love this pan so much! I can’t believe I spent so many years of my life without a cast iron pan. Fact is, I just never understood how easy these are to cook with and maintain. Yes, you have to season it. Yes, that takes a little getting used to at first. No, it’s not hard and really doesn’t take much time to maintain. It’s much easier than I thought it would be, and I love the way my food comes out!Once properly seasoned, this pan is as non-stick as any other pan I’ve ever used. I did the initial seasoning in my gas grill. That way you don’t fill your kitchen with smoke. You can certainly use a regular oven if you don’t have a grill. Give it a good 2-3 seasonings before using it to cook. There are plenty of articles and videos online explaining how to season a cast iron pan.As for the cooking, if you haven’t used cast iron, you don’t know what you’re missing. The heat distribution and retention are amazing. For best results, make sure to pre-heat to your desired temp for several minutes before adding oil or food. Cooking with oil also helps maintain the non-stick surface, so the surface improves the more you use the pan. I’ve used this for steaks, fried/scrambled eggs, bacon, arepas, and shepherd’s pie. I find myself looking for more recipes I can use it for. I haven’t tried using it on my gas grill yet, but I’m eager to try. This thing makes me want to cook more!I like the 12-in size, though many people may prefer the 10.25-in version. I can prepare a NY Strip and a Fillet in this pan at the same time, with room to spare for a butter baste. It’s a bit large for a 3-egg scramble, but still works well. The one down-side is the weight. You’re not likely to flip an omelet with this puppy, unless you have very strong wrists. Of course, that’s not specific to this brand – it’s a cast iron thing. Maybe the 10.25-in version would be easier to handle for some purposes. That said, this pan feels like it’s going to last for generations to come.Oh, and if it seems like I’m being sponsored by Lodge, please know that I’m not. I’m just a regular guy sharing his thoughts about a product I truly enjoy using. Happy cooking!

The more I cook with it, the more I like this pan. Sometimes I wonder why I waited so long and spent so much time and money buying nonstick pans when this can do so much more. I’ve started to do things like use this too cook steak in the oven since I live in an apartment and can’t have a grill. If you haven’t tried this look online and find a recipe and trust me it’s wonderful. Also, are use it for eggs and potatoes and for so many ordinary every day cooking uses. It absolutely does need seasoning and if you’re not careful, things will stick but it’s a delight to have.

I grew up using some really old old old cast iron frying pans and these always looked different color and I just couldn’t imagine them being as good as the old stuff. But I have been pleasantly surprised!

Love the sear you get from a cast iron pan.Make sure you purchase the metal scrubbers. East to clean.
Dustin Hamby –
Wonderful quality! And it’s a pre seasoned pan, so it’s off to the races as far as cooking goes! Just remember- these aren’t meant for the dishwasher- hand clean only, and be sure to oil them once they’re dry.

Buy it. They’re indestructible. Season it 3 times before you use it, be mindful of your heat level, and nothing will stick to it. I season it after each use (maybe that’s overkill) and this is the best pan in the world. Use it on the stove, use it in the oven, use it on the grill, put the thing over a fire. It doesn’t care, it’ll work.If you absolutely burn eggs in it and get them to stick, just hit it with a water and chain-mail scrubber and season it again. Good as new. It’s not like a teflon pan where you’ll scrape off the coating and get an extra dose of cancer the next time you cook. For the price, you cannot buy a better pan. It will outlive you.

The Lodge cast iron Skillet was recommended to me by chef. I found that purchasing on Amazon was cost effective, especially with the next day delivery. I am using it almost every meal and am extremely pleased with the quality. I have only had it a short time, but so far has exceeded my expectations.
